Notes

Pre Game

After being upset 34-32 in 2007, Michigan entered the 2014 season with hopes of re-building a program that has seemingly been in a tailspin since Lloyd Carr retired after the 2007 season.

\r\n

It started as expected. Michigan QB Devin Gardner tossed a 9 yard TD pass to Devin Funchess for the opening score and didn’t let up from there. They would connect for two more TD’s and De-Veon Smith would run for a score putting Michigan up 28-0 in the second quarter. The nail in the coffin would come just 38 seconds later by way of a blocked punt returned 32 yards for the score by Ben gedeon. Michigan led 42-0 before App State QB Kameron Bryant threw an 8 yard TD pass to Simms McElfresh for the Mountaineers first score of the day.

\r\n

Gardner finished 13/14 (92%, second highest percentage in a game in Michigan history) with 173 yards and 3 TD’s all to Devin Funchess who finished with 7 receptions for 95 yards. Derrick Green ran for a score and a career high 170 yards. Michigan finished with 560 yards total offense while App State finished with only 280 mostly on the ground.
