Played for Michigan until 1893 and then coached Iowa starting the very next year in 1894. Sherman was implicated in a series of articles by Caspar Whitney who claimed that schools of the Western Conference were corrupted by “professionalism” and were paying players. On October 6th, 1895, Sherman was accused of offering a player named Stevenson $600 to finish the season with Michigan.
