Catlin played football at the University of Chicago where, in 1905, he accounted for the only score in their victory against Michigan by tackling a Wolverine in their own endzone for a safety. The victory broke Michigan 56 game winning streak. Catlin also coached the Lawrence Vikings in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Conference. His teams won four consecutive conference championships (five total) with an overall record of 55-29-7. He was given the moniker “Coach of Champions” and ranked third on the school’s all-time wins list.
