ANN ARBOR – Michigan football’s latest firing wasn’t about play-calling; it was about doom-scrolling. They’ll be studying this move for ages to come. “How Not to Run a Program” by Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel isn’t a book. We’re living it right now.

Warde Manuel has fired head coach Sherrone Moore after conducting a rigorous evaluation process. Forget film study, recruiting classes, or win-loss records—Manuel discovered the true pulse of the program. He read the mentions in his social media apps.

A thread from @MadMichiganMan5793 was especially informative. He’s never coached or played football. He’s watched more games this season than last season. That, to Warde Manuel, qualifies him to know what it takes to lead a team like Michigan. The lengthy thread can be summarized in one sentence, “We need a coach who’s willing to take chances.”

Another piece of the puzzle came from a Facebook rant. Again, no coaching or playing experience, but he once attended a Michigan football game at Ohio State Stadium. “This is unacceptable for Michigan.” Although the poster never defined what “this” is. Manuel’s decision came after a particularly scathing TikTok comment that read, “Bro can’t even call plays in Madden.” That was followed by a Reddit poll where 62% of anonymous users voted Moore “mid.”

Faced with overwhelming evidence, Manuel concluded the logical step was to fire Moore. Forget that he led a freshman heavy team to a 9-3 season. Forget he has a better record than the 13 other teams in the so-called “Big Ten”. Why trust the results when you can trust an anonymous fan who goes by “GoBlue9999”?

The fallout has been swift and perplexing.

Fans who demanded Moore’s firing are now furious.

“This is no time to be in the coaching carousel,” posted @MadMichiganMan5793 after deleting his previous post.

Rival fan bases are already posting polls of who should be the next coach. Currently 57% want James Franklin. 35% Desmond Howard. The other 8% are holding out for Lane Kiffin after he leaves LSU after game 1 of the 2026 season. Honorable mentions involve literally anyone who has ever appeared in a Dr Pepper Fansville commercial. Although that seems unrealistic.

“At the end of the day, it’s about accountability… and who you follow on Instagram.” – Warde Manuel

In the end, Manuel defended his decision with the kind of clarity only X (formerly Twitter) can provide. “I can’t believe I was listening to sports professionals. All this time I could’ve been listening to fans who’ve never been responsible for as much as pee-wee league.”
